Sims Valley was intentionally not designed as a resort community, but there will be delightful facilities created for the enjoyment of all residents and guests.
The Reconstruction of the Sims Homestead, out buildings, pond and park will serve as a combination museum, library and gathering point where neighbors will assemble before a day's activities of fishing, picnicking and nature trail hiking. A winding trail follows Betsy Creek down the valley from the Sims Homestead to a height reaching the pinnacle of Pilot Knob Mountain. Reborn and resplendent, the Sims Family Homestead has been recreated as a tribute to turn of the century Appalachian living for generations to enjoy.
A dramatic owners pool and pavilion complex will be located at one of the prime vista locations of Sims Valley. This includes a playground and fitness center and is a delightful year-round activities area for families that will add value to the pure mountain experience.
Situated at the northern edge of the valley overlooking a thousand foot plunge into the large Tuckasegee Valley below, this scenic park will offer a classic mountain experience for picnicking, relaxing and absorbing the mountain majesty at one of the best valley vista locations looking 30-40 miles out over mountains to the horizon.
All elements of the Sims Valley lifestyle are connected by the thread of the nature trail system that runs throughout the community designed by Trail Dynamics, whose expertise has been utilized by the National Park Service. The best place to begin is at the Sims Homestead where the trails follows Betsy Creek down the valley through rock formations, a sliding rock waterfall and masses of Rhododendron, Laurel and Hemlock. Running Cedar and other mountain flora abound on the trail before it turns up towards the rim and Pilot Mountain. The trail system is also accessible at other Sims Valley facilities and parks.
